A little behind

So, this is the design we've decided to go with. We'll be going soon to talk to a person about Blueprints.

Basically, this is just an update on things so far. I've spoken to my dad, who is a retired carpenter. He plans on helping us build this. My fiance's dad is a finish carpenter, so hopefully we will also have help with that.

Day 3: Discussion

So today's the day we are going to talk to a couple of construction people and see what advice they have to offer. We are going to take our blueprint idea to them and see what problems they find with it, what materials they suggest, etc.

For us, we have to take into account that we have a toddler and a puppy that both like to get into things, so the materials have to be well taken care of and child safe. I'll update again tomorrow.

Day 2: The Discussion

So basically today's just going to be about discussing blueprint designs. There's not really much to blog about today. You should discuss how many bedrooms you want, a floor design, how many bathrooms, laundry room placement, etc.

It's a little ways off, but today may also be a good day to discuss themes, colors and bedroom/bathroom plans. Basically, discuss what materials you want to use, what colors you want to use, and what type of foundation.

Good luck,
Ruth

Day 1: The decision

So my fiance and I have been working on trying to find a home. We finally decided today that we want to build our own. This is the first step.

The best thing to do is to sit down with whoever else you are going to be building this home with. My fiance and I are searching online at blueprints. http://joecauthenbuilder.com/joecottages/cottages/images/cottage__6.jpg  This is the one we liked best so far. But that doesn't mean that we are going to make it exactly like the blueprints. We plan to tweak the prints a little to our own tastes while still keeping the 820 sqft limit. We are building a cottage-style home because it is fitting for us.

The next step is to research and find out what you need to do in your Parish or County to get started. Today we plan on talking to my sister about scrap materials from her old trailer since she has her own home and the trailer is unlivable. If she says it's fine to take and use them, then that's our first step to actually making our dream real.

Thanks for reading. :D
